Uses of nylon
1. Nylon is a high strength fibre. It is used for making fishing nets, ropes, parachutes and type cords.
2. It is used for making fabrics in textile industry.
3. Crinkled nylon fibres are used for making elastic hosiery.
4. Nylon is widely used as plastic for making machine parts. It is blended with wool to increase the strength.
Why is Nylon Useful?
Nylon is a widely used material made from synthetic polymers or otherwise, known as plastics. Usually made from petroleum, it was first marketed in the manufacturing industry on February 28, 1935 by a researcher named Wallace Carothers. It was first used in 1938 in making a nylon-bristled toothbrush.
Will it continue to be useful in the future?
For 50 years, application of polyamide (PA) has grown rapidly, due mainly to the excellent material properties of this well-established polymer. However, without introduction of new production technology or product development, nylon will continue to lose market share to other fibers.
